Fall is here in Charleston, SC and with it comes some of the best fly fishing of the year! We had our first couple cold fronts which has dropped the water temperatures into the mid to high 70’s and the Redfish couldn’t be happier. Captain Braden Powell and FishWater Outfitters have had continued success fishing the flood tides in the grass and now the low tides are starting to fish very well also.
Captain Braden Powell and Charleston, SC fly fishing guides have been seeing a lot of tailing Redfish on the incoming and flood tides. Although sometimes the tailing fish are happier on the falling tide, the majority of our action has been on the rising tide. Fiddler crabs are still a large part of the Redfish’s diet right now, however, we have been starting to see bigger shrimp in the marsh as well. The past few days, a shrimp pattern in tan and brown has been the best fly. As we continue into the next few months, a shrimp imitation will become the number one pattern to cast during the low tide and the fall flood tides. The sunrise low tides can be some of the best of the year as you’re poling down a bank and watching Redfish eat shrimp along the shorelines.
