Sight fishing for Redfish here in Charleston, SC has been very good recently. As the water cools, it also becomes very clear, allowing the angler to be able to sight fish with a fly rod or light tackle spin rod to Redfish in the shallow mud flats and bays. During the next few winter months, Redfish will continue to be in schools, mostly to protect themselves from Dolphins. This also allows the angler to have a shot at schools of Redfish, sometimes 10-20 and sometimes 100 plus fish pushing down the bank or cruising around the oyster mounds looking for food. Assuming the weather allows, we have many days in January and February that will be full sunshine and in the mid 60’s to 70’s. Once the water and the flats warm up a bit, the Redfish will be actively feeding and pushing wakes all around in very shallow water.

The sight fishing in and around Charleston, SC will continue to be very good in the comings weeks and into February. We will have great opportunities at catching Redfish on the fly and also light tackle spin gear in clear, shallow water around Kiawah Island, Folly Beach and downtown Charleston, SC.
